Submissions

Damazine is an online literary journal publishing fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. We focus on authors based in or with ties to the Muslim world in the largest sense. At the same time, we strive to present a rainbow of themes and writing styles. Our biggest criterion is quality. We are looking for powerful, well-crafted pieces that throb with meaning.

Poetry may be rhyme or free verse. No more than five poems per submission. Send poetry to poetry [at] damazine [dot] com.

Fiction should have vivid characters and an original plot. Length should be 1,000-5,000 words. Send fiction to fiction [at] damazine [dot] com.

Creative Nonfiction should convey factual material in a way that reads like a literary work. (Read Lee Gutkind's thorough description of this genre to understand what we are looking for.)  Length should be 1,000-5,000 words. Send nonfiction to nonfiction [at] damazine [dot] com.

Damazine publishes quarterly and is open for submissions year-round. Please send your submission, in the body of an email message or as a Word attachment, to the appropriate address specified above. The email message must include the word "Sub" in the subject line to prevent our spam filter from deleting it. Also include your full name, general location, and an optional short bio in the body of your message. Please allow up to four months for a response.

We prefer previously unpublished material and very rarely publish reprints. Any previously published material must be clearly indicated as such, including date and location of previous publication. We only publish submissions written in the English language. Simultaneous submissions are allowed but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. We offer $25 USD per published fiction or nonfiction piece, and $10 USD per poem. We do not pay for reprints.
